CBRN SoS: A System-of-Systems Approach officially launched to Revolutionize CBRN Defence Information
The CBRN SoS project, Enhancing Cross-Border CBRN Operational Readiness and Effectiveness through an Overarching System-of-Systems Approach, marks an ambitious initiative to revolutionize Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) defence. By creating a comprehensive information system capable of integrating diverse national CBRN systems and components, the project aims to set a new benchmark for cross-border operational effectiveness.
Spanning 36 months, the project represents a major leap forward for European defence. It will assess current information systems, identify opportunities for capability enhancement, and map synergies between Member States. Furthermore, it will provide an increased level of situational awareness, as well as a reduced risk of false alarms and misinterpretations, to enable a faster and more efficient response.
The consortium held its kick-off meeting, hosted by AIT in Vienna, where representatives from 17 entities convened to officially launch the project.
The Kick off Meeting set the stage for the disruptive and game changing work ahead that will effectively improve the CBRN defence capabilities of the armed forces of the Member States and the EDF associated countries (Norway). Following this, the consortium will design a detailed system architecture and prototype key components, culminating in live demonstrations to validate the approach.
Bertin Environics’ Role in CBRN SoS Project
Bertin Environics will be involved in the development of tactical situational awareness software and its interfaces. Based on the current X-System being deployed, Bertin Environics will go one step forward by integrating the software into the global command chain, in particular with operational military softwares.
