SaphyRAD MS was utilized during a demonstration of Bertin Technologies UAV-based radiological reconnaissance capabilities to the Belgian Army. This handheld multiprobe radiation survey meter is already being used by the French Army and it has even received an official “As Used by French Armed Forces” – label from the French MoD in November 2024. SaphyRAD MS is also in service in several other armies across Europe.

Easily mounted on HEXADRONE’s Tundra 2 drone via a simple, ergonomic interface, the high-sensitivity gamma detector is particularly well-suited to remote radioactive source detection missions, providing real-time field cartography of the surveyed zone, and alarms if any are triggered, with the Enviscreen Operix CBRN monitoring system software solution. Despite being a sophisticated CBRN sensor networking and monitoring system software, Enviscreen Operix relies on friendly interfaces: a light and robust mechanical interface to plug and unplug the high sensitive gamma probe, and it is used world wide by several military and safe guard organizations.

This UAV-based solution is thus ideally suited to CBRN reconnaissance and emergency response applications in nuclear environments

This demonstration counted also with enticing discussions between CBRN specialists from 3 armies (Belgian Army, French Armée de Terre, and Royal Netherlands Army) that are already utilizing Bertin Technologies & Bertin Environics CBRN detection and monitoring solutions.

The demonstrated drone-based radiological reconnaissance solution has proven to be the best in terms of radiological detection performance for this category of drones.
