Bertin Technologies, owner of Bertin Environics, has been actively involved in an EDIDP (European Defence Industrial Development Programme)-CBRN-RSS project, funded by the European Commission (EC) and led by the AIT – Austrian Institute of Technology.
About the CBRN RSS Project
The objective of this project was to build a technical demonstrator based on unmanned systems with modular payloads, that can adapt to each type of CBRN threat. It aims at improving European CBRN defense capabilities for risk detection, early warning, and surveillance, bringing together technologies from 15 EU institutes and companies. The French Bertin Technologies contribution has been possible thanks to the support of DGA.
Flexibility and modularity are achieved thanks to numerous sensors, samplers, and platforms that transfer the information collected to a remote control and command system. This report is then forwarded to decision-making bodies in a standard NATO format, thus deepening threat understanding and enhancing responsiveness, while ensuring operators’ maximum safety.
In April 2024, the project has successfully passed its most important stage with the final demonstration of the system capability.
Bertin Environics Components Utilized in CBRN RSS Project
As a technological company involved in all CBRN components, Bertin Technologies is contributing to the CBRN RSS project with three detection and sampling instruments: biological air sampler Coriolis Compact for air safety monitoring, stand-off gas cloud detector Second Sight MS, and a new UAV capable gas sampler prototype.
The performed tests were successful and Bertin Technologies was able to demonstrate the performance and efficiency of its devices and especially the Second Sight MS on unmanned vehicles for local cross-checking and on-the-field identification.
About Second Sight MS & Coriolis Compact
Second Sight MS is a passive, long range chemical and toxic gas cloud detector that is ideally suited to military and civil defense operations due to its compact, lightweight and modular design. Its multispectral infrared imaging system shows the localization of TIC’s and CWA’s as an overlay.
